English to Spanish Translator – FreeDownloadManager.org

January 2008 – September 2008 (9 months)

My responsibilities are translating the program descriptions submitted by users to the Software portal Freedownloadmanager.org from English to Spanish. Those descriptions are on a variety of styles and subjects, and the aim is to make them correct without changing the user original intent when submitting them, making the software information database available for the Spanish market. Additionally I also review and report badly written original texts, or those that doesn’t follow the website policies for publishing and proofread previous partial translations of the software descriptions.

PHP and Java Programmer – Neurona Networking (OpenBC)

January 2007 – November 2007 (11 months)

My main responsibility was the development of new Java tools (using the Lucene engine) for network calculations and searching engines, as well as maintenance of the existing ones. I also worked on PHP to develop new functionalities for the professional networking portal’s front end.

In June 2007, Neurona was purchased by OpenBC (Xing.com) and it became necessary to translate all the technical documentation, user manuals and design documentation from Spanish into English for use on the German office, and I was put in charge of that along with my usual duties as programmer.

Languages

Native Spanish and Catalan.

English:
Superior Certificate (5 years) by the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas (Official Language School) roughly equivalent to Cambridge’s CAE (Certificate in Advanced English).

Experience in work with internet groups and communities where english was the main language, including some of the IRE Muds and Ilyrias and also currently living in the United Kingdom since November 2007.
